NHL’s Blackhawks, Red Wings Will Drop The Puck At Wrigley Field In January

The Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings will play outdoors at Chicago’s Wrigley Field this coming Jan. 1, a newspaper is reporting.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported an NHL source confirmed the NHL’s second Winter Classic and third outdoor regular-season game will be played at the historic baseball stadium. The first regular-season game played outdoors was the Heritage Classic between Edmonton and Montreal at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium Nov. 22, 2003. T

he format was renamed with Winter Classic and the Buffalo Sabres played host to the Pittsburgh Penguins this past Jan. 1 at Buffalo’s Ralph Wilson Stadium in front of 71,217.
